The day of your Shockwave Lithotripsy (SWL) procedure can be both exciting and nerve-wracking. To help you feel more at ease and prepared, here’s what you can expect on the day of SWL:
Time and Location:
Arrive at the hospital or medical facility at the scheduled time. Confirm the location of the SWL department or procedure room in advance to avoid any last-minute confusion.
Registration:
Check-in at the reception or registration desk. You may need to provide identification and insurance information, so have your relevant documents ready.
Hospital Gown:
You’ll be given a hospital gown to change into before the procedure. Remove any jewelry, piercings, or other accessories and store them securely.
Your healthcare team will explain the anesthesia options available for the SWL procedure. The three main options are:
Anesthesia Team:
An anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist will be responsible for administering and monitoring the anesthesia. They will explain the procedure to you, answer any questions you may have, and ensure your comfort and safety.
Vital Sign Monitoring:
You will be connected to monitoring devices, such as a blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, and electrocardiogram (ECG) leads. These devices will continuously monitor your vital signs during the procedure
