This launch webinar introduces the vision and educational mission of Lithotripsy Academy, an international initiative dedicated to advancing evidence-based shockwave lithotripsy education for urologists, technicians, operators, and patients. The faculty explores the complete SWL treatment pathway, beginning with the fundamental science of shockwave generation and interaction with stones and tissue. The programme then focuses on the practical elements required to deliver effective treatment, including coupling, imaging, targeting, energy ramping, shockwave frequency, and treatment optimisation. The webinar also examines appropriate patient and stone selection, considering factors such as stone size, location, density, skin-to-stone distance, anatomy, and individual patient characteristics. Treatment outcomes, safety, complications, retreatment, auxiliary procedures, and follow-up are discussed to provide a balanced understanding of clinical success.
